Our History

The Hamilton Taxation and Public Finance Research Center was established in 2017 with a clear mission: to strengthen public understanding and inform policymaking on taxation and fiscal policy through rigorous, independent research. Named in tribute to Alexander Hamilton, the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury and a pioneering architect of American fiscal policy, the Center embodies his forward-thinking spirit and commitment to strong public finance institutions.

Founded during a period of heightened economic uncertainty and shifting tax landscapes, the Center was created by a team of economists, legal scholars, and policy professionals who recognized the urgent need for a dedicated institute focused on fair, efficient, and transparent tax systems. From the outset, the Center sought to fill a critical gap in public discourse—offering nonpartisan, data-driven insights to help governments, businesses, and citizens navigate complex fiscal challenges.

In its early years, the Hamilton Center launched foundational research on tax reform, budget sustainability, and equitable public finance. As its impact grew, the Center expanded into new areas such as international tax policy, corporate taxation, and digital economy taxation—establishing itself as a thought leader in both national and global tax policy circles.

Since 2017, the Hamilton Taxation and Public Finance Research Center has evolved into a respected institution known for its analytical depth, policy relevance, and commitment to the public good. As it continues to grow, the Center remains deeply rooted in its founding purpose: to ensure tax and fiscal policies serve as tools for equity, growth, and sustainable governance.
